We didn't actually start today....we started a few days ago.
There's really no good way to explain why we've gotten ourselves so far in the hole. We did have to take out a loan to get pregnant with our second child. We do have a child who has more medical bills than most. And, we've become lazy. Grabbing dinner on the go has made us broke and fat!!! We do like the niceties of life....LTE phones, iPads, home wifi, cable with movie channels, two car payments...it all adds up! In the past, we've made making a budget and sticking to it something fun to talk about but we've never made the time to sit down and actually figure everything out. So, here we are almost 15 years later, realizing that if we EVER want to retire and/or send our children to college, something needs to change NOW.
I'd toyed around with YNAB (You Need A Budget) on and off for a few years, never really making myself understand the four basic principles of YNAB. It's not all that difficult but I couldn't get my mind around it. They've recently changed their business model and YNAB is now completely cloud-based and has a small monthly fee. I'm not opposed to that so we decided to give it a try. I can honestly say, I'm hooked!! Giving every, single, dollar a job is more fun than I thought it would be. It's easy to see now where all of our hard-earned money is going.
We have a long road ahead of us but in the end, I know we'll come out better on the other side!!!
